Asante Samuel Gets Eagles Fans and Himself Riled Up Before Training Camp
Earlier today former Eagle and now Falcon Asante Samuel took to twitter and entertained himself by getting Eagles fans riled up for no reason other than he’s relaxing on the beach in St. Lucia and has nothing better to do. But I’m not fooled, I think there was an element of seriousness to Asante’s complaints about fans “turning” on him and that kind of thing.
To refresh your memory, the Eagles largely depended on Samuel’s playmaking ways to hold a barely-there defense together and once they decided that they wanted to build a talented team they traded him in favor of Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. My regular readers know how I feel about Asante. I love his passion and I love his feast or famine style of play. He was my favorite Eagle from the time he joined the team from the Patriots in 2008 until this year when he left.
The way I saw the situation was that Asante gave his all to Philly and then had to watch the team rededicate itself to winning without him from the window of a plane to Atlanta.

If the Philadelphia 76ers end up trading Andre Igoudala it will be a similar scenario there. Much like Allen Iverson was the core of the 76ers and the best player he ever got to play with was Aaron Mckie. And that’s no disrespect to Mckie, it’s just to say that he never really had a Pippen to be honest. And if Iggy ends up staying who did the Sixers get to help him? Kwame Brown.
Football is a business and blah blah blah yada yada but it’s still unfortunate when you have a stellar player who has to leave before experiencing even one year with the team aggressively putting the right pieces together.
Last season was a horrific one for Eagles fans as ugly losses harkened us back to 1994, a year no Eagles fan wants to remember. But this was worse cause the talent on the current Eagles team far out paces the talent on the 94 squad. How’s that to make you feel hopeless.
Back to Asante, he said he’s just using some time to get fired up for training camp and Eagles fans are used to seeing him “talk shit every day.” I’m looking forward to him giving the Falcons a lot more personality and interceptions. Too bad his car is too far away to put on blocks though. JUST KIDDING. Asante knows the deal.
