David Garrard will be sidelined for 2-4 weeks – have you joined #TeamMattMoore Yet?

David Garrard is the projected starting QB for the Dolphins this year but he had arthroscopic surgery that will put him out for 2-4 weeks.

Miami Dolphins QB and current projected starter David Garrard had arthroscopic knee surgery today and will miss 2-4 weeks. He’s 34 so let’s go with 4 weeks. And just to catch folks up, Garrard was unceremoniously released by the Jacksonville Jaguars and then sat out all of last season after having back surgery.

Accounts from Dolphins camp say that Garrard looked sharp and strong which is why the last Hard Knocks episode ended with Coach Philbin informing Garrard, Matt Moore, and Ryan Tannehill that Garrard was the projected starter for now. To be honest, I haven’t seen Garrard play enough to comment on his strengths and weaknesses or even his style of play. I have no idea what *type* of player Garrard is and when I looked for old film on you tube I didn’t find anything (if you find something PLEASE post a link. Also, if you have thoughts on Garrard’s play, share that as well).

This was somewhat a long way of saying I am FIRMLY PLANTED ON TEAM MATT MOORE. I thought Moore had a very solid season last despite the team being dysfunctional and the receivers not giving him a whole lot to work with. Brandon Marshall, who is now with the Chicago Bears, had some good moments but was inconsistent as all hell and often seemed disinterested. Reggie Bush looked more willing and able than he has in past years to contribute but it seemed former Dolphins Coach Tony Sparano (now with the NY Jets) doesn’t know what to do with a running back unless he’s running that tired ass wildcat he loves so much. I know some of you love WC but count me out!

At 28, I think Moore is at a great age. And despite looking hesitant sometimes to get the extra yards himself, I think he showed a lot of toughness and enthusiasm for the job. He never quit on that team even when they were at their absolute worst — which was often.

All in all, I think Moore is much less scary a starter than some of the other QBs that are projected to start or fighting for a starting job like Kevin Kolb and Jon Skelton and Tavaris Jackson and Colt McCoy.

I’m not saying I’m 10000000% sure that Moore is the answer, but I really believe that he earned another opportunity to start given what he contributed last year.

Thoughts? Are you Team Matt Moore? Team David Garrard? Rooting for Ryan Tannenhill? Think the Dolphins are going to be a disaster and none of this even matters? Let me know. lol

PS: I wrote about the Hard Knocks premiere here. I wasn’t too excited. I’m going to watch again Monday though.
